Many thanks to the women in the Shebrooke region of Quebec who knitted over 350
teddy bears for children in tragic situations. Mary Doan who heads this group
called "Teddies for Tragedies " heard about the work S.F.A. does with orphans in
Kenya.......
Mary Doan put all the Teddies on a provincial bus to make the journey from her
home in Quebec City. Each bear was first "broken in " with a hug from her
husband !
The bears arrived by bus in Montreal in time to meet Sr. Agnes Khati who was
visiting us from Kenya. Sr. Agnes co ordinates our feeding programs for orphans
in Kakamega. She was very excited to meet the bears destined for a long journey
to the children!
The bears flew with us on the trip this summer. Each
bears had it's own little bag. Every time a bag was opened you could see the
delight on the face of the child who received it. For most it was their first
toy ever. Above the bears find homes in Emalindi.
The girls at Tirimas School for Orphans adopting their bears
with hugs and laughter which was music to our ears.
The bears brought joy to The Mukumu Children's Home. All of the
children at this home have come through very difficult situations of
abandonment, abuse, rape, forced labour or the illness and death of their parents.
The bears knitted with so much love bring them comfort . Thank you Mary &
Friends !!
