Question: What inspires you to put a smile on the faces of starving destitute and orphaned children?

Answer: An evening in a friends house in Shanyinya community just after food had been put on the table I went out to answer to a call of nature, while I passed by the kitchen I saw three children feeding on crumbs from a cooking pan. It touched me and when I went back to the house, I gladly told my host that I was full and instead called the kids and gave them the food. On finding out where the children came from, my host told me that they were orphans from the neighborhood who have nobody to care for them and that they moved from one house to another feeding on left overs. Their story moved me to tears and I immediately shared with SFA the story. Suitcases for Africa responded to the urgent need of many orphans in Shanyinya community by urgently providing 6.3 tonnes of relief food to victims of hunger and starvation especially children.

Many millions of dollars are send to Kenya and Africa by international organizations and developed countries to help the weak, the hurting, the sick and the starving through respective governments. It is unfortunate that such emergency funding never reaches the recipients on time and in most cases never reaches the recipients at all. Suitcases for Africa is different. It works with communities at the grassroots directly through established Christian ministries and community based organizations which ensures that the help reaches the intended recipients as quickly as possible without unnecessary bottlenecks and red tapes.

Answer: Mathew 25:35-36 and Ezekiel 34:2-4 teach us to:” Strengthen the weak, bind up the injured, care for the sick, share your food with the hungry, clothe the naked, invite in the stranger and look after widows and orphans. “Suitcases for Africa has enabled me as a parish priest reach out to the deserving thus enabling me fulfill my priestly duties of caring for the poor, the sick and the hungry.

Answer: “He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. Go and do likewise.”(Luke 10:34-37).I thank Suitcases for Africa so much for what they are doing in Kenyan communities by helping the vulnerable and the helpless.
